GEORGE BRYAN COLUMN - It's PGA Showtime in Orlando

Posted

A million square feet of wall to wall golf is where myself and a few friends will be this week taking in the 2020 PGA merchandise show.
The venue is the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando Fla. It’s quite amazing and unlike anything I have witnessed in golf.
Imagine a golf exclusive mall, with a huge indoor driving range and every store is something different in golf. From industry giants, 2 small startups and everything in between, will be presenting their newest innovative ideas.
There will be people from all over the world reviewing cutting edge technology, fashion and networking. There is every imaginable technology associated with golf from golf carts to golf clubs.
Equipment has been the traditional drawing card. In the last few years, fashion has become much more interesting. There are fashion shows, workshops, seminars and after-show hour parties.
What always has been the highlight for me over the years is the people the event draws. The greatest minds in and around golf will gather for 3 days under 1 roof, so the atmosphere is charged.
The Spur at Northwoods recently held the Palmetto Pediatric & Adolescent Clinic. Palmetto Smiles Ped and Family Dentistry and Colorglo International divisions and the following players “toured” the front 9 - Liam Carwford, Samuel Ford, Jaxon Stewart and Austin Weems all enjoyed the beautiful day.
GMK Associates, Greg Wych DDS and Herndon Chevrolet divisions were held by Charwood Golf Club. The following players ‘toured’ the front 9 - John Paolucci, John Jackson, Wade Duncan, Charles Penny, and Ruhao Shen played a Captain’s Choice shooting a 44 and Adysen Langdale, Marleigh Mayer, Riley Hunt, Faith and Grace Brock also played a Captain’s Choice shooting 40.
There are two competitive divisions in the program this year. LinRick Golf Club held the Midland Electrical, On Call Plumbing, & Patriot Consulting, LLC  girls divisions. Mia Andrade and Bella Berragozzi finished tied for 2nd with scores of 44 and Alexis Hodge of Gilbert took 1st with one shot better at 43.
In closing this week, please check the Lexington County Recreation and Aging website (www.lcrac.com ) for a brand new family golf option that starts in March. Go to ‘Athletics’, then in the last paragraph, find then click ‘Family Junior Golf’. This program is quite unique.
For details, call assistant athletis director B.J. Belville at (803) 359-4048 Ext. 240.
