The new year finds 3-time defending Class 2A boys’ basketball champion Gray Collegiate still atop the SC Basketball Coaches Association Top 10 polls.

The War Eagles (10-4, 1-0) entered Friday’s matchup at Batesburg-Leesville in the top position. It’s 1 of 7 Chronicle Country teams ranked in the respective classification polls.

Dutch Fork in ranked 6th in Class 5A, Irmo remained in 5th in Class 4A and Brookland-Cayce makes the Class 3A poll at 7th. 

Lexington and Irmo are the lone ranked girls’ teams at 8th and 5th, respectively, in Classes 5A and 4A. The Lady Wildcats return to action at 4 pm Saturday at home against Dutch Fork.
