Lexington County Blowfish drop season-finale 7-5

Posted

The 2019 season came to a disappointing end Saturday night for the Lexington County Blowfish.
Despite an enthusiastic, supportive home crowd for Fan Appreciation Night, Lexington County fell 7-5 to the Florence RedWolves in a game shortened to 7 innings.
It was the 7th consecutive loss for the Blowfish, who finished a Coastal Plain League-worst 15-34 overall and 6-20 at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
Lexington County jumped out to a 4-0 lead through 3 innings. James McConnon belted a 2-run homer over the leftfield wall in the 1st inning and Aaron Adams of River Bluff High School and Joey Tepper each had a RBI in the bottom 3rd.
Florence answered with 7 unanswered runs over the next 4 innings off starter Shane Connolly and CPL Pitcher of the Week Jared Drayton. Kenny Piper of Columbia had 3 RBI and Lex Tuten added 2 RBI and a solo home run.
The RedWolves (22-29) also capitalized off 6 Blowfish errors. This left Lexington County 1 shy of matching last year's total of 100.
Lexington County mounted a last rally in the bottom 7th. An RBI single by Kitt Capell brought the winning run to the plate with 1 out. However, both Peyton Evans and Jacob Rye of Gilbert struck out as the Blowfish ended the game with 11 stranded runners.
For the 2nd straight year, both Georgia-based teams Savannah and Macon advanced to the Petitt Cup playoffs.
