Lexington County Blowfish look to end home losing streak

Posted

At about 1,501 a game, the Lexington County Blowfish attract more fans than some  rivals.
What would make the experience more enjoyable would be more home victories.
Since the dramatic 8-7 comeback win over Forest City in the season-opener, the Blowfish have lost six straight games at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
The team has been shut out twice. That does not include a 4-0 exhibition loss to the Catawba Valley All-Stars).
They have given up double-digit runs three times and been outscored 65-18.
Past the midway point of the first half of the Coastal Plain League schedule, Lexington County now embarks on a 3-game homestand.
The team hopes to make up ground with Savannah in the South Division. It starts with two games against division rivals Florence Thursday and Macon Friday.
Saturday marks the 12th annual “Gamefish Cup” contest between the Blowfish and University of South Carolina alumni team. Lexington County snapped a 3-game losing streak to the Gamecocks and took a 6-5 edge in the series with the 2-1 win last year.
Veterans honored July 3
Another special event at the stadium takes place July 3.
For the second year, the Blowfish will honor military veterans at the High Point-Thomasville game.
"We are expanding the event this year to include all veterans of active duty participation in ANY foreign conflict defending our freedom from World War II to the present day," said coordinator Bob Caughman.
Veterans who attend will receive:
- 2 complimentary admission passes and reserved seating for the ball game.
- Reserved use of the ball park's private air-conditioned banquet area for veterans and their guests beginning at 6 pm with hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, beverages and dessert.
- An opportunity for veterans to participate in a pre-game ceremony on the field during  the pledge of allegiance, a fallen comrade (POW/MIA) presentation, Taps, the national anthem and ceremonial first pitch.
- A complimentary electronic subscripition to the Lexington County Chronicle and the Lake Murray Fish Wrapper, the official newspaper of the Lexington County Blowfish.
