The streaks are over for the Lexington County Blowfish.
Thursday's win over the Florence RedWolves not only snapped a 4-game losing streak on the season, but a 6-game skid at home.
Like the previous seven home games, the Blowfish (7-11) fell behind by a 1-0 score in the Top of the second. Lexington County answered in the bottom of the secon when Connor Tate belted a 2-run homer to score he and Hunter Lipscomb.
A RBI single by Carson "Mac" McCurdy of White Knoll High School extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth. The Blowfish then erupted for a season-high five runs at home on RBI hits by C.J. Smith, Zach Spivey, Jared Williams of Gilbert, McCurdy and Tate.
Florence answered with a 5-run rally of its own off starter Jordan Beatson of Dutch Fork High School. He was relieved by fellow Silver Fox graduate and University of South Carolina sophomore T.J. Shook, who needed just one pitch to end the RedWolves' threat.
Lexington County added insurance in the bottom of the eighth. Smith drove in his second run of the game and Williams scored on a throwing error by Florence catcher Brody Gibson.
After the leadoff runner reached for Florence in the ninth, reliever Colton Rendon got the final three outs for the first home win since the May 31 season-opener against Forest City.
The homestand continues Friday with a rematch between the Lexington County Pancakes and Macon Bacon. The fledging Bacon shut out the Pancakes 9-0 in the June 8 meeting and have won all three meetings this season against Lexington County.
