Mother Nature won again Saturday.

For the second straight weekend, excessive rainfall has affected a spring sports event on the diamond. After the Naturchem Invitational was shortened a day last week, the final day of the Lady Wildcat Invitational was cancelled after overnight showers made the Pine Grove Softball Complex unplayable.

The brief Invitational saw Region 5-5A rivals Lexington and White Knoll, as well as South Aiken, go 2-0 Friday.

The Lady Wildcats won both of their games over North Myrtle Beach and Spring Valley by 9-0 scores. Hannah Kumiyama had a 2-run homer in each contest and struck out 11 in the victory over the Lady Vikings.

Allie Light also had a 2-run homer in Game One where she struck out 4 in the win and Sarah Gordon had 6 hits and 2 RBI in the 2 games.

The defending Class 5A champion Lady Timberwolves also posted a shutout in its Game 1 contest. They blanked Daniel 6-0 behind a 9-strikeout, no-hit effort by pitcher Andrea Lyon.

Lexi Winters and Ariana Farr each had 2 hits and an RBI in the win.

Game 2 was a 10-1 win over Midland Valley. Winters homered in the contest and Ashley Burkett had a 2-run single for White Knoll.

The Lady Timberwolves play host to Lexington Tuesday for the Region 5-5A opener at 7:15 p.m.

Light, Lyon, Timberwolves
