ROUTED BY BACON - Lexington County falls 12-0 to Macon

It’s a tale of two regions this season for the Lexington County Blowfish.

They have a winning record against Coastal Plain League teams in the Carolinas.

After Friday’s 12-0 loss in 8 innings to the Macon Bacon, the Blowfish remain winless against teams from the state of Georgia. This marked the first time Lexington County has lost under the new “mercy rule” which allows a game to be halted after 7 innings when a team is ahead by 12 runs.

A game start was delayed 45 minutes by a rain delay. Once play began, the Bacon (4-3) scored 4 runs off Lexington County starter Bret Fulk.

He gave up a RBI single to Cole Blatchford and 2-run double to Nathan Schreckengost in the bottom 1st and a RBI double to M.J. Bookard in the bottom 2nd.

Meanwhile, Lexington County was held to 2 hit and managed just 5 baserunners through 8 innings off starter Preston Sparks. The Middle Georgia State righthander struck out 8 and had a no-hitter through the first 3 ⅔ innings before giving up the first of 2 singles by Houston Wright.

The other Blowfish baserunners came in top 6th when Tyler Corbitt reached on a throwing error by Macon shortstop Jared Miller with 2 outs. Sparks also walked Luis Acevedo and Josh Gregory in the top 8th.

Miller made amends starting in the bottom 6th with an RBI single off new Blowfish addition Bennett Nance. The University of North Carolina pitcher allowed 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 5 in 3 innings.

Macon broke the game open with a 7-run rally in the bottom 8th. Miller hit a 2-run double in top 9th off Blowfish reliever Peyton Evans. Ryan Flores relieved Evans and allowed 3 runs on a passed ball, an RBI single by Tristan Thomas and an RBI walk to Corey Bivins.

Brian Smith was the 3rd Blowfish reliever used in the inning and gave up an RBI walk to M.J. Rookard and game-ending RBI single by Miller.

The Blowfish have now been outscored 17-0 in their 2 road losses to CPL Georgia-based teams Savannah and Macon.

The Blowfish (2-4), weather permitting, open a 3-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. Saturday against the Florence RedWolves. The contest is not only Irish Heritage Night, but also the 2nd contest in the “I-20 series” between Florence and Lexington County.

The Blowfish lead 1-0 after an 11-6 victory this past Thursday.
