On Thursday night, fans at Lexington County Baseball Stadium will witness history.
Greta Langhenry will become the first female umpire in a Coastal Plain League contest at the stadium. She earned the assignment as a CPL umpire on July 11th after a round of call-ups to Minor League Baseball.
Langhenry will work the contest between the Blowfish and the Macon Bacon at 7:05 pm on Irish Heritage Bowl presented in part by O’Hara’s Irish Pub.
"The CPL continues to be a forerunner in umpire development," Blowfish General Manager Theo Bacot said. "On Thursday night, the Blowfish and our fans have a chance to witness history and we're looking forward to Greta being the first female umpire in Lexington County Baseball history, but certainly not the last."
"Our partnership with MiLB Umpire Development has been great for both sides," said Coastal Plain League COO/Commissioner Justin Sellers in the initial announcement of Langhenry's debut. "We have been working with Dusty and his staff, as well as our teams in anticipation of this day; and we are honored to be a part of this achievement for Greta and for the game in general. As with all of our umpires, we are looking forward to helping in Greta's professional development while in the CPL."
Lexington County will close out the season Saturday at home against the Florence RedWolves. The contest is billed as Fan Appreciation Night and final bids will be placed on the 2019 carnival-themed jerseys worn by the players this season.
