Posted

All 11 candidates vying for three seats on the Lexington County School District 1 school board will meet on a debate stage later this month.

The League of Women Voters is hosting the debate at the White Knoll Performing Arts Center on Sept. 26. The public is invited to the event, which starts at 6:30 p.m., and it will also be livestreamed on the district’s YouTube channel.

The three at-large seats are coming open due to members Dr. Kyle Guyton, Jada Garris and Timothy Oswald leaving at the end of their current terms.

The 11 nonpartisan candidates running for the board filled out a questionnaire available on the district’s website.

Making up the crowded field for the three seats are Harriet Coker, Richard Gehling, Aaron Granade, Dana Homesley, Katie McCown, Andrea Nazarenko, Nicholas Pizzuti, Mary Price, Chris Rice, Rhys Sage and Beth Shealy.

Ahead of the Nov. 8 general election, early voting will be available Oct. 24-Nov. 5, Monday-Saturday.

Lexington 1, the largest school district in the county, is in the midst of its search for a new superintendent, with the board interviewing the five finalists Sept. 12-16.
