Big Thursday Celebration Returns to Lexington

Posted

The Lexington Sertoma Club will hold its 13th annual Big Thursday Celebration Thursday, Oct. 20, at the Icehouse Amphitheater and Pavilion in Lexington.

The event starts with a 5:30 p.m. social, followed by buffet-style dinner and program.

This fundraising event commemorates the state’s biggest college football rivalry, which was played on Thursday the week of the S.C. State Fair through 1959 before moving to a permanent weekend berth.

The inaugural Big Thursday event was held Oct. 22, 2009, exactly 50 years after the last Big Thursday game played in Columbia. Held in cooperation with the Town of Lexington, this event is part of our continued commitment to promote and sustain volunteer service, charitable support, and community leadership in the greater Lexington area.

This year guest speakers will include football standouts from the late-'80s/early-'90s will speak about their Carolina-Clemson football experiences.

Those featured players include former University of South Carolina linebacker Corey Miller and safety Wayne Bell and former Clemson linebacker and NFL All-Pro Levon Kirkland and defensive tackle Vance Hammond.

The event also honors former club president and board chair emeritus, Tommy Harman, who died earlier this year.

His "vision, and drive established the tradition of our annual Big Thursday commemoration," a release states.

Tickets for the event cost $50.  Find more info at facebook.com/sertomaclublexingtonsc.
