A Chapin man is accused of attempting to stab a man to death after entering that man’s home.

Cameron Thomas Hinckley, 23, faces charges of attempted murder, first-degree burglary and possession of a weapon during a violent crime following the Sunday, Dec. 17 incident, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

“The victim’s wife told deputies Hinckley knocked on their door, then pushed past her to get to the victim on the back porch,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted in a release. “The victim’s wife eventually pulled Hinckley off the victim.”

Fire and EMS were already on scene at the house on Loveless Lane treating the victim when deputies arrived, having been dispatched right before 8 p.m., per the release.

“They found a man who had been stabbed multiple times,” Koon is quoted.

Loveless Lane, which snakes down to Lake Murray, is located just off Old Lexington Highway near the Palmetto Shores subdivision, about six miles from the heart of Chapin.

Per the release, Hinckley walked back to his house after the incident.

“Word came from Hinckley’s mother, who was on the scene of the stabbing, that he was still at home as deputies started their investigation,” Koon is quoted. “As more units arrived, Hinckley refused to come outside. After about 30 minutes, deputies arrested him without incident.”

The release states that Hinckley was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center following his arrest and scheduled to appear in bond court Dec. 18, though the result of that hearing isn’t specified and wasn’t immediately available via online court records.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
