Lexington County commuters who work in Columbia will need to leave even earlier for work Friday.
SC Department of Transportation begins construction on 3 major roadways in Richland County this week.
The Pavement Preservation Program is a $21 million project starting Friday.
The following roads will be closed:
⦁ I-126 EB to Huger Street - September 28, from 7:00 p.m. to 7 a.m
⦁ I-126 EB to Elmwood Avenue - September 29, 7 a.m. to 8:00 p.m
⦁ Huger Street to I-126 WB September 30, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Motorists are advised to follow information posted on message boards and to follow the posted detours during these times of closures to minimize impacts.
Drivers traveling through the construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working adjacent to traffic at all times. Let 'em work. Let 'em live.
The purpose of this project, which is part of SCDOT's strategic 10-year plan, is to improve safety, rehabilitate the aging interstate and mend the existing bridge.
Motorists can use SCDOT's 511 Traveler system for updates to help make travel decisions.
