The top-ranked Chapin baseball team completed a 3-game Region 5-5A sweep of defending Class 5A champion Dutch Fork Friday.
Led by Drew Calhoun’s 3 RBI and Matthew Becker allowing just 1 hit in 6 innings to go with 6 strikeouts, the Eagles shut out the 3rd ranked Silver Foxes 11-0 on the road.
It was the 6th straight win for Chapin, which outscored Dutch Fork 20-0 in the 3 games and held it to 6 total hits.
SOFTBALL
Chapin 11, Greer 1 (Game 1)
Chapin 5, May River 4 (Game 2)
The Lady Eagles earned 2 victories at the Byrnes Invitational held Friday at the Tyger River Sports Complex.
In Game 1, Leah Cube had 4 hits and struck out 3 in 5 innings. She and Tatum Meyes each drove in 2 RBI for the Lady Eagles.
In Game 2, Dallas Mayers scored the game-winning run on an error following a groundball hit by Mackenzie Lott.
Gracie Derrick drove in 2 runs and she and Mayers both had 2 hits in the win.
Chapin will play again at 9 am Saturday.
River Bluff 5, Dutch Fork 4
The Lady Gators scored 3 runs in the Top 7th to take a Region 5-5A win over the Lady Silver Foxes.
The rally started on Kendll Shealy’s 1-out RBI double. Following a single by Maggie Stankey, River Bluff tied the game when Shealy scored on an error.
With 2 outs, Kallie Ellington singled home Stankey for the lead. Madi Craps got the final 3 outs in relief of Shealy, who had 8 strikeouts to go with her 3 hits.
Megan Stolzenbach had 3 of the Lady Silver Foxes’ 10 hits. Isabel Garcia took the loss.
GIRLS SOCCER
Gilbert 2, Strom Thurmond 0
Banner McNatt had 9 saves in goal and Riley Barnes and Hannah Alligood each scored for the Lady Indians in the Region 5-3A win.
Kaylee Barnes and Emily Halsey each had an assist for Gilbert (4-0-2, 2-0).
Lexington 2, Chapin 0
Kylie Mcllravy and Kellyn Motley each scored for the Lady Wildcats in the Region 5-5A win.
River Bluff 1, White Knoll 0
Maddie Poole accounted for the lone goal for the top-ranked Lady Gators.
Prior to the game, the Lady Timberwolves recognized seniors Eliza Frye, Raquel Ortiz, Kaitlyn Wood, Courtney Stamm and Bailey Brown.
