Gaston man accused of attempting to kill man, endangering child

A Gaston man is accused of trying to kill another man during a Nov. 16 shooting.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department reports that Stefan Charles Golson, 31, is charged with attempted murder, along with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and two counts of unlawfully placing a child at risk.

“Based on a review of the evidence and statements gathered during their investigation, deputies have determined Golson went to a home in Gaston to make a former girlfriend leave with him,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted. “A man at the house tried to make Golson leave, before Golson threatened to kill him and, eventually, firing multiple rounds at the man.”

According to provided arrest warrants, Golson made the threat, "I'm going to kill you, on blood," to the man.

The warrants recount that Golson left to retrieve a firearm, which the victim described as "a silver pistol with a long barrel," and the man attempted to close the gate to his property. Golson then allegedly pointed the firearm and fired; spent shell casings were found where witnesses indicated he was standing.

Per the release, Golson went to another home in Gaston upon leaving the site of the shooting.

“One of two counts of unlawfully placing a child at risk stem from Golson’s action at the second location,” Koon is quoted. “Because he refused to obey deputies’ commands and come out, his choices put a child’s life, and physical and mental health at risk.”

According to the release, the same child was at the home where the shooting ocurred, which resulted in the second count of  unlawfully placing a child at risk.

Arrest warrants state that Golson refused to come out of the house for 45 minutes while law enforcmement was outside with guns drawn.

“Golson eventually surrendered peacefully to deputies at the second location on Fallaw Road,” Koon is quoted. “He was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center.”

Golson is no longer listed among the inmates at the detention center, with court records indicating he paid cash surety bonds totaling $92,000 and received personal recognizance bonds totaling $20,000.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
