This week’s edition of the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association’s team rankings features five new teams and movement among some of the regulars.
Four of the five Lexington County teams included in last week’s standings remained on this week’s. The Gilbert girls team fell out of the 3A poll after a blowout loss to Lower Richland last week.
Gilbert will have a shot to get back in the poll next week if the team can string together some wins late in the season. The Indians have a real opportunity to bounce back this week against a 3-8 Brookland-Cayce team and a 0-9 Dreher team.
The most changed poll was in the 3A girls. Not only did Gilbert fall out, but previously ranked No. 5 Aynor dropped out after a loss last week. This bumped Fountain Inn from No. 8 to No. 5, Darlington from No. 10 to No. 7 and Dillon from No. 9 to No. 8.
Lower Richland’s performance against Gilbert earned the team a spot at No. 10 in the girls 3A poll. Clinton entered the rankings and took the No. 9 spot.
The other teams entering polls this week are West Ashley, No. 10 in the 5A boys poll, Riverside, No. 9 in the 4A boys poll, and Loris, No. 10 in the 3A boys poll.
Lexington kept its No. 1 spot in the 5A poll. The team has held that crown all season and added two dominant wins last week against region opponents.
Gray Collegiate’s boys also held its top spot in the 2A rankings after picking up a 34-point win over Legion Collegiate Academy last week. The War Eagles were also credited with two region wins against Fairfield Central due to forfeit.
The Dutch Fork girls stayed at No. 6 in the 5A girls poll, and Gray’s girls remained fourth in the 2A girls poll.
There was no movement in the 5A girls, 4A girls, 2A boys, 1A boys and 1A girls polls.
Here are the complete coaches rankings.
