The Heise family has received another soccer coaching honor.
This time, Emily Heise of Gray Collegiate Academy was named Spring Atlantic Small Public School Coach of the Year. The wife of War Eagles' head coach Kevin Heise will receive the Award during the United Soccer Coaches Convention taking place Jan. 11-15 at the Pennslyvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Penn.
Other award winners from South Carolina were head coaches Anthony Esquivel of Christ Church boys (Spring South/Private-Parochial) and Shannon Clamp of Wando girls (Spring Atlantic/Large Public School).
"It’s pretty cool to be recognized for this caliber award," Heise said. "However, with any award, I think you have consider a person’s surroundings. I have a heck of a coaching staff. I’m part of a program that strives to be the standard. My administration and staff do everything they can to help coaches at GCA be successful. And finally, I have a team of girls who are of high character that believe in what we are coaching and work hard to achieve our goals."
Heise completed her fourth season with the War Eagles with an 18-5 overall record, a fourth consecutive region title and a third-round Class 2A playoff appearance. She enters next season closing in on career win 100 as her overall record is 98-47-5.
"As far as being close to 100 wins, I was unaware of my win total until I saw the press release," she said. "If you coach long enough, most will hit these types of milestones. A coach doesn’t win games, players do. Thus, I need to thank all of those players who helped get to 98 wins. The ones who built the foundation, those who lead by example and those who helped create some of my fondest memories."
