Gray Collegiate basketball standout makes college decision

Posted

With the high school basketball season on the horizon, Gray Collegiate standout Braylhan Thomas no longer has to worry about his recruitment.

On Oct. 9, Thomas announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he will start his college career at Georgia Southern.

“It just felt like home, it just felt really comfortable,” Thomas told the Chronicle. “They just made me the most comfortable and I know that’s how I can thrive and be better for myself.”

Thomas said that his rebounding and playmaking ability from the wing position is one of the reasons that Georgia Southern was drawn to him as a prospect.

“They really liked how I rebound the ball and get my teammates involved,” Thomas said. “They really like how I can get downhill.”

Gray Collegiate head coach Dion Bethea is excited for Thomas and believes that he’ll fit right in at the division one level with his positive attitude.

“We all know the basketball side of him,” Bethea said. “But Braylhan is a really really good human being. He’s always looking out for others and he’s not selfish or any of that stuff. I love that about him.

Bethea also believes that Thomas’ defensive ability and effort will translate to Georgia Southern as well.

“He takes a lot of pride in every time he’s defending,” Bethea said. “I love that about him too.”

Thomas will be joining another former Gray Collegiate War Eagle, Avantae Parker, who is currently a freshman forward on the team and played with Thomas the last three years. Thomas said the relationship with Parker is one of the reasons Georgia Southern was an attractive destination for him once his time with Gray Collegiate is up.
