Lake Murray to host major collegiate fishing event

Posted

After hosting a Major League Fishing event in April, Lake Murray will host a Bassmaster College Series fishing event in January of 2024.

The Bassmaster College Series Tournament trail event will take place Jan. 26-27 with Miriam Atria, the president and CEO of Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board, indicating the lake will represent a unique challenge for collegiate anglers.

“We know Lake Murray will deliver a challenging event to the collegiate anglers and the final weights will be strong,” Atria is quoted in a press release.

It’s been a big year for Lake Murray as they hosted a Major League Fishing tournament that was re-broadcast on the Discovery Channel on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 and was also named the fourth best lake in Bassmaster Magazine’s list of the 100 best lakes in America.

Glenn Cale, the tournament manager for the college, high school and junior Bassmaster series’, believes that Lake Murray’s prominence as a fishing community will be a beneficial experience for the young anglers.

“We’re really pleased with this schedule,” Cale is quoted. “It is fun for both the anglers and their families to explore some of the country’s historic fisheries and the communities surrounding them.”
