Late Goal Line Stand Gives Brookland-Cayce the Home Region Win

Posted

Brookland-Cayce held on for a 14-7 win over Lower Richland Friday at Fort Knox.

It was a Region 5-3A matchup which lasted two ½ hours. There was not much offense in the first half as the score was tied at 7-7 and even less in the second half.

Brookland-Cayce scored the go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter.

Naahzeikial Mays, who rushed for 99 yards, and Deshaun Washington each scored for the Bearcats.

But the outcome of the game was not decided until the last minute of the fourth quarter.

Lower Richland moved the ball on its last drive to the Brookland-Cayce four-yard line.  On a fourth and three, the Bearcats stopped the Diamonds with 33 seconds left in the game.

Brookland-Cayce twice stopped Lower Richland inside the five-yard-line. Latron Pauling and Benjamin Pugh both had a big night for the Bearcat defense.

The Bearcats (4-3, 2-0) travel to Swansea Oct. 14.
