Lexington County deputy fired after alleged DUI, hit-and-run

A former Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy is facing DUI and hit-and-run charges.

Terry Govan, 52,  was arrested by South Carolina Highway Patrol after being accused of driving under the influence and being involved in a hit-and-run Tuesday, Dec. 19, according to a release.

The release front he department states that troopers with the state Highway Patrol arrested Govan at his home, stating that that is where he went following the crash near the entrance to his subdivision.

“No one was hurt in the collision,” the release states.

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon terminated Govan Tuesday night, per the release. He was hired in 2001.

The release states that Govan was booked into the Lexington County Detention center following his arrest and was released Wednesday after appearing before a magistrate judge.
