Lexington musician Jeff Smith introduces Parallel Lines

Lexington musician Jeff Smith is launching Parallel Lines with “You’ll Find Better,” a debut single arriving Friday, Nov. 6, on Spotify, Apple Music and other major streaming platforms.

Smith wrote, performed, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered the track himself, taking on every part of a release that reflects both his musical roots and his life as a husband and father.

For Smith, completing the project means following through on a passion while showing his family the value of setting goals and working through obstacles, according to a news release. Beyond the music, he is managing the project’s promotion, social media, music video development and press.

“I want to show myself as well as my family that reaching goals is important,” Smith said. “It helps you refocus, overcome obstacles and build relationships in the community.”

Musically, “You’ll Find Better” brings together the emo, alternative rock and easycore genres. Its upbeat energy accompanies lyrics about a breakup from several years ago, confronting the guilt of causing a relationship to end and the fear that the other person will find a better future without you.

“She was amazing, and I just screwed up,” Smith said in the release.

The song captures the feeling of loss from inside the experience when it’s difficult to imagine that life will improve. Its central theme is accountability: recognizing your own mistakes while struggling with the consequences.

Smith previously performed with Cities Apart and Just Saying, with past credits including opening for Anberlin and Saosin. Parallel Lines is currently a solo project, with Smith building a band lineup and planning future collaborations with musicians throughout the Southeast.

A music video for “You’ll Find Better” will follow the single. Smith is also finishing additional tracks for release in the coming months.
