Wellmore of Lexington opens writing competition for high school seniors

Wellmore of Lexington, a Life Plan community, has announced that the annual Silver Pen Competition is now open for submissions, inviting local high school seniors to compete for awards while sharing the stories, experiences and ideas that matter most to them.

The Silver Pen Competition has been connecting generations through the power of storytelling since 2012. Through the program, students submit original essays while Wellmore of Lexington members serve as judges, helping select the winning entries and celebrating student achievement.

Wellmore of Lexington will award up to $3,750 in cash to three outstanding high school seniors to support their future educational and career goals.

Students are invited to submit a 1,000-word essay responding to the following prompt: “Are schools doing enough to prepare students for adulthood? What is successful and how can they improve?”

A panel of Wellmore of Lexington members will review the submissions and select the competition winners. The Silver Pen Committee plays a meaningful role throughout the process, from choosing the essay topic and evaluating entries to recognizing the winners during a special awards celebration.

Over the years, the Silver Pen Competition has awarded more than $506,000 in awards to high school seniors, helping students pursue their goals while fostering meaningful connections between generations.

Winners will be announced in the spring of 2027.

High school seniors are encouraged to submit their essays early. For complete contest rules, eligibility requirements and submission information, visit SilverPen-SLC.com.
