Man Shot and Killed at Lexington Apartment Complex

Posted

A man was killed in a shooting that occurred in the wee hours of July 9 at an apartment complex about two miles east of downtown Lexington, according to the town's police department.

"At approximately 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a shooting call at the complex and found a man outside in the stairway who had been shot in the upper body," the department says in a news release. "Officers provided aid until Lexington County EMS arrived and transported the victim to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased."

The release notes that this appears to be an isolated incident and that the investigation is in the early stages.

"The shooting investigation at Lauren Ridge Apartments continues and detectives will be at the scene for the next several hours," the department posted to social media at 7:24 a.m.

A shelter-in-place request for residents of the apartment complex, announced by Lexington Police a little after 3:30 a.m., has been lifted.

"Detectives believe residents of the apartment complex may have seen or heard what lead up to the shooting or have home security cameras that may have captured footage of the subjects and the vehicle driven to the complex," the release states. "Anyone who witnessed this incident, has home security footage, seen social media postings, or has other information that would be helpful in this case is asked to contact Detective Payton at 803-358-7271 or bpayton@lexsc.com."

The department also encourages those with information to contact Midlands Crimestoppers by calling 1-888-CRIME-SC, via midlandscrimestoppers.com or the P3 Tips app.

"The Lexington Police Department and the Lexington County Coroner's Office are investigating this case and more information will be released when it becomes available," the release states.

Lexington Police responded June 19 to a shooting at another apartment complex about two miles away, during which a vehicle was shot several times and two people were injured; one was grazed by a bullet, while the other was hit in the shoulder.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
