Lexington School District 1 Announces Meetings to Introduce Superintendent Finalists

Posted

After revealing the finalists for the job at a late-August board meeting, Lexington County School District 1 announced a series of meetings next week for the public to get to know the candidates.

The meetings will be held nightly, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Sept. 12-16 in the auditorium at Lexington 1’s headquarters (100 Tarrar Springs Rd.). The schedule is:

  • Sept. 12 — Gerrita Postlewait
  • Sept. 13 — Luke Clamp
  • Sept. 14 — Heath Branham
  • Sept. 15 — Nakia Hardy
  • Sept. 16 — Ron Garner

The meetings will not be broadcast via the district’s YouTube channel as with board meetings.

“These are informal meet and greet events to give community members an opportunity to interact with the finalists,” the district wrote on Facebook in response to a commenter asking about the meetings being broadcast. “There are no presentations or formal speeches.”

The five finalists are also set to visit schools and tour facilities during the last phase of the search process. The finalists were narrowed down from a group of seven semifinalists, according to Board Chair Anne Marie Greene.

Lexington 1 is the most populous school district in the county, stretching from the shores of Lake Murray in the north to Pelion in the South, and from Gilbert in the west to the Oak Grove area in the west. The student population of the district was 27,673 as of the latest headcount available from the state Department of Education, making it the sixth largest district in the state (behind nearby Richland County School District 2).

The search for a new superintendent began toward the end of the previous school year, when Greg Little, the previous head of the district, announced his resignation to take on a new position with the state Technical College System.
