Lexington, Chapin and White Knoll close out softball tournament with victories

The Varsity Blue Invitational concluded March 4 at Lexington and White Knoll high schools.

The Lady Wildcats finished the tournament 2-0-1. They opened play Saturday with a 3-3 tie with Catawba Ridge.

The Lady Wildcats rallied from a 3-0 deficit to finish with a time-limit tie against the Lady Copperheads.

A bunt single by Alaina Henry in the bottom fourth brought Lexington within 3-1. In the bottom of the fifth, Kiley Shleton scored on a passed ball and Livi Warren singled home the tying run.

Julia Nation, who relieved Mackenzie Mathis who finished with seven strikeouts, retired the first two batters in the bottom of the fifth inning before giving up a two-out single when play was stopped.

In the final game, the Lady Wildcats defeated Wando 4-2.

Kiley Shleton had two hits and she, Sam Craig, Maggie Hinz and Alaina Henry all drove in a run for the Lady Wildcats.

Mackenzie Mathis struck out five and allowed five hits in six innings to pick up the win.

Chapin 11, Westwood 1

Leah Cabe drove in two runs as part of a nine-run first inning which propelled the Lady Eagles to victory.

Andee Dircks had two hits and two RBI, Nicole Stockwell went 2-2 with an RBI and Ella Majchrzak had a two-run single which ended the game on the 10-run mercy rule.

Majchrzak was also the winning pitcher, allowing one hit, one run and striking out five batters.

Chapin 11, Saluda 0

Andee Dircks homered twice and drove in four runs and Reagan Haggard added a solo home run to give the Lady Eagles a 3-0 record at the Invitational.

Aspen Mayers and Leah Cabe, who allowed just one hit in three innings, both drove in two runs.

Ayden Leaphart went 3-4, Mackenzie Brown drove in two runs and Izabella Adams had two hits and was the winning pitcher for the Lady Indians.
