The streak of championships won continued Monday for the Lexington High School girls’ golf team.
A week after claiming a 4th straight Region 5-5A title, the Lady Wildcats added a 4th consecutive Class 5A Lower State title.
They fought off Carolina Forest to win the event Monday held at Traces Golf Club in West Florence. They finished with a score of +19 (307) to beat out the Lady Panthers by 7 strokes.
Chapin scored a +57 (345) to finish in 5th place and River Bluff had a +85 (373) to tie with Stratford for 8th place. The top 8 teams will compete for the Class 5A title at the 2-day tournament taking place at Mid-Carolina Country Club in Prosperity.
Lexington will seek to add to its state-record title total of 13 and win a 4th consecutive state title in Class 5A.
Karlee Vardas led Lexington with a score of 2-under-par 70. She finished tied for 2nd place and 3 strokes behind Carolina Forest’s Victoria Callahan. Lady Wildcat Molly Hardwick tied for 4th place at 1-under-par 71 and Emily Baker of Chapin finished in 7th place.
In Class 3A, the Gilbert golf team finished in 2nd place at their Lower State tournament held at Cheraw State Park. The Lady Indians shot a 346 to finish behind Oceanside Collegiate Academy.
Kennedy Gooding had Gilbert’s lowest score at 73, followed by Meredith Price (87), Ally Moss (91) and Alexis Hodge (95).
The Class 3A final is scheduled next week at Hackler Golf Club in Aynor.
