A man was shot and killed in Lexington County early Saturday, Sept. 23, allegedly by a man who entered the home where he was sleeping.
Gervamieon S. Moody, 24 years old, of West Columbia was shot multiple times in the upper body while in bed at the home of a female friend and died at the scene of his injuries.
The Lexington County Coroner's Office noted via Facebook that the shooting occurred at about 7 a.m. and identified the victim as Gervamieon S. Moody, 24 of West Columbia, noting he "was shot multiple times in the upper body while in bed at the home of a female friend and died at the scene of his injuries."
Dez’Mond Keon Miller, 25 of Lexington, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the county Sheriff’s Department says in a release.
“During their investigation, detectives determined that Miller entered a home in the 2000 block of Capitol View Drive and shot the victim while he was asleep,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted. “A witness in the home recognized Miller and called 911.”
That address is located between Pine Ridge and Gaston near U.S. Highway 321.
“There were other witnesses in the home who are unharmed,” Koon is quoted. “Investigators believe Miller knew the victim.”
Arrest warrants state that Miller shot the sleeping victim multiple times and that he argued with a witness as to why he shot them. That witness reportedly used the defendant’s phone to call 911. Other witnesses mentioned hearing gunshots, the warrants state.
The warrants specify that the defendant broke into the home before shooting the victim.
According to the release, the victim’s identity will be announced pending family notification.
The sheriff’s department reports that Miller turned himself in at its headquarters Saturday afternoon and is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.
This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
