Dave and Leslie Duffie have introduced a new market and eatery to the Irmo area — though it will be quite familiar to fans of the market and eatery that resided in the location previously.
Roxanne’s Market has opened at 2900 Dreher Shoals Rd., opening July 1 in place of Fusco’s Market in a small shopping center near Lake Murray. The previous market operated in the spot since 2016, closing in May.
Among the other businesses in the shopping center is Tavern on 6 nextdoor, of which Michael Fusco, who owned Fusco’s, is a co-owner.
The Duffies named the new business after a friend of Leslie’s who died from stomach cancer.
“There is a dedicated clientele so we’re not changing the menu too much but we will do customized salads. There will also be build-your-own sandwiches,” said Dave, emphasizing they will keep up the market side as well as the restaurant side.
That market aspect will feature takeaway casseroles, sides, drinks, meats and cheeses and other items for people to pick up and go.
For the restaurant side, Dave mentioned they are looking to add breakfast options and to continue Fusco’s specialty nights such as the weekly Italian night.
As soon as the Duffies get their liquor license, they will have beer, wine and liquor on the restaurant side.
While the restaurant has a new name, there are some familiar menu options and familiar faces making them.
“The old chef [Saul Ponce] and staff are staying with us,” Dave noted.
On Facebook, Fusco encouraged previous patrons of his market to try Roxanne’s.
“I believe that you will find many similarities between the two markets, including a variety of prepared casseroles and salads,” he posted.
Dave acknowledged the fact that Fusco’s “was a part of the community,” evidenced by the more than 100 comments on Facebook when Fusco announced the business was closing.
The Duffies are starting small, Davie said, but aim to keep adding to and tweaking their operations based on customer feedback.
As of now, the restaurant side is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and the market side is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
As to what the Fusco’s team is up to now, Fusco noted in announcing the May closure that the staff was set to begin serving lunch at the neighboring Tavern on 6 in June, with the market’s catering services also continuing, again, through Tavern on 6.
