Teen arrested for shooting at men

A 13-year-old Pelion boy is charged with two counts of attempted murder and shooting into a dwelling after deputies said he shot at two men and toward a house.

“Based on the information deputies gathered at the scene Friday, the young man fired a .22 rifle in the direction of his neighbor, who was outside his home on Bush Berry Road in Pelion,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Witnesses told deputies a man who pulled into the neighbor’s driveway was also shot at.”

“... he was placed under arrest and transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice,” Koon said. “He will appear in Lexington County Family Court at a later date.”

Deputies bust Gaston chop shop

Officers seized an assortment of firearms and drugs before busting a chop shop last week at a Gaston home. Three men and three women were arrested on a wide array of charges.

Officers found seven guns, Xanax, Valium and meth inside the home during the search, according to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon.

“Motorcycle and truck parts were at the location indicating a chop shop was in operation behind the home.”

According to Koon:

• Wayne Boron, 23, is charged with illegal possession of a firearm and unlawfully operating a chop shop.

• Andrew Chamberlain, 30, is charged with possession of ammunition by a person convicted of a violent crime, unlawfully operating a chop shop, and drug possession and trafficking charges.

• Robert Flowers, 32, is charged with possession of a stolen handgun, unlawfully operating a chop shop, possession with intent to distribute and drug trafficking charges.

• Katie Leavitt, 23, was wanted by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.

• Sarah Steele, 31, is charged possessing controlled substances and meth.

• Alexis Wilson, 22, is charged with possessing meth.

Man charged with stealing puppy

A local man was arrested last week with stealing a puppy from a West Columbia rescue group.

Peter Klein, 20, is being charged after a theft from PETSinc, according to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon.

PETSinc denied Klein an adoption because he didn’t meet PETSinc’s minimum age of 21.

Employees said he went into a “staff only” section and walked out a side door with the 8-week-old puppy.

Klein turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Department, and is charged with larceny of a dog.

“The specific section of larceny of a dog holds up to six months in jail, so I think the state actually does take it a little more seriously than a petit larceny due to the fact that this is a living creature that people love and it requires care,” Investigator Josh Skeen said.

Two dead after head-on collision

Margaret Anne Burke, 61, and Robert Anthony O’Kelley, 44, died last week after their vehicles collided head-on on Augusta Hwy, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

Burke died at the scene May 9. O’Kelley died in the hospital the next day. Burke was wearing a seat belt, O’Kelley was not.

This was the seventh traffic fatality in Lexington County in the past week, according to Fisher.
