With two outs and trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the ninth Saturday at Grayson Stadium, the Lexington County Blowfish staring at some dubious numbers.

They were on the verge of a second consecutive loss at the Savannah Bananas and third straight overall. Lexington County was also mired in a 17-inning scoreless streak going into their final at-bat.

A 5-run rally and a game-ending strikeout by reliever Colton Rendon to halt a final threat gave the Blowfish an improbable 5-4 victory.

Lexington County (4-5) was held to just five hits through eight innings. In comparison, Jake Sullivan accounted for four of Savannah's 11 hits in four at-bats.

The Bananas (6-2) picked up its four runs against starter Jon Scott of Lexington who finished with seven strikeouts.

Chaney Rogers started the comeback in the ninth by reaching first base on an error. After a single by White Knoll graduate Carson “Mac” Macurdy, the Bananas struck out Chandler Redmond for the fourth time in the game and got Sean Parsons of River Bluff to hit into a fielder’s choice.

Rogers advanced to third and Parsons was on second with two outs when Chandler Jenkins drew a walk to load the bases.

Pinch hitter Hunter Lipscomb proceeded to end the scoreless streak with a RBI single to score Rogers. Patrick Price of Gilbert High School followed with a 2-strike, 2-run single to make it 4-3.

Savannah changed pitchers, but the first batter faced Zack Spivey singled home Jenkins to tie the game. Spivey and Jenkins led the Blowfish with two hits each.

Aaron Adams of River Bluff would score Price with an infield single to cap the comeback. It marked the second time this season Lexington County had scored five or more runs in the ninth inning.

Rendon entered the game to close out the victory. After retiring the first two batters, he gave up a triple to Clay Dungan and walked Justin Dirden.

Trenton Nash looked to tie the game with a hit, but was struck out by Rendon to end the game.

Lexington will play host to the Catawba All-Stars in an exhibition at 6:05 p.m. Sunday at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. Ice cream will be served at the ballpark.
