Peach Festival cancelled, other events uncertain

Lake Murray Independence Day fireworks still on

The Gilbert Community Club has cancelled the popular Lexington County Peach Festival this year.

"Unfortunately, this pandemic has proven itself to be unpredictable, and we feel that it is our responsibility to cancel the festivities as we have no way of enforcing safe distancing," the club annoiunced  "We have expanded our planning time for next year's festival, so our goal will be to have the best festival yet!"

Capitol City/Lalke Murray Country tentatively plans to hold Lake Murray's 4th of July fireworks.

They will post all announcements on LakeMurrayCountry.com after June 1.

Other events in the Midlands have been postponed or canceled due to the corona virus.

There's no official word if sporting events will return in 2020 with fans in the seats.

NASCAR kicked off its racing season Sunday at Darlington without fans. 

3 more races at Darlington and Charlotte are planned over the next 2 Wednesday evenings and next Sunday.

St. Pat's in Five Points is canceled, the Five Points Association said.

Fort Jackson's 103rd birthday celebration combined with 4th of July fireworks is tentatively planned for Saturday, May 30.

Columbia's Food and Wine Festival is still slated for August 20 to 23.

The  State Fair is on schedule for October 14 to 25.
