Red Bank to get Lexington County’s fourth Lowes Foods location

Posted

Red Bank residents who prefer to do their grocery shopping with a beer in hand are in luck.

Lowes Foods, the upscale chain that will pour you a pint at its included Beer Den craft beer bars, announced two new locations this week, one of them headed to the northeast corner of Platt Springs Road and South Lake Drive. That’s where the 57-acre mixed-use development Platt Springs Crossing was announced to be coming about a year ago.

Other tenants that have been identified as circling the forthcoming development include one of the first two Palmetto State locations of beloved chain Whataburger along with fast food Chinese mainstay Panda Express.

A release from NAI Columbia, which is associated with the Platt Springs Crossing development, notes that Lowes Foods will anchor the new development, and that other businesses slated for the loctation include Chipotle, Tidal Wave Car Wash, and a Planet Fitness.

While a release from Lowes Foods states that construction and opening schedules for the Red Bank store and the other newly announced store in Waxhaw, N.C. have yet to be determined, NAI Columbia reports that the first openings are anticipated in early 2025, with Lowes Foods set to follow in the third quarter of 2025.

The Lexington area is increasingly flush with Lowes Foods locations, with one located along the town’s busy Sunset Boulevard corridor, another located on the U.S. Highway 1 across from Lexington High School and another serving the Town of Chapin — these in addition to locations in Forest Acres and northeast Columbia.

According to the release, Lowes Foods currently operates 81 stores, all in the Carolinas.

The grocery chain’s stores are marked by its variety of internal branded “storefronts” — The Beer Den, The Boxcar Coffee, Chicken Kitchen, Smokehouse barbecue, The Cakery, Sammy’s sandwich shop, etc.

The Platt Springs Crossing development is set to add to an increasingly bustling area about five miles south of downtown Lexington, with the property situated across the street from the Publix at Lake Crossing and the Red Bank Chick-Fil-A and behind the Sonic Drive-In on South Lake Drive.

The area around the Platt Springs/South Lake intersection is already home to a Tractor Supply, a Lowe’s, a Walmart and many other mostly national chains. It also recently welcomed a new outpost of local Southern food chain Lizard’s Thicket at 1772 S. Lake Dr., which opened earlier this week.
