The two candidates squaring off for the U.S. Congressional seat representing Lexington County will have to answer to some of the county’s students later this month.
Incumbent Republican Joe Wilson and Democrat candidate Judd Larkins, contesting Nov. 8 for South Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District, will take part in a debate Oct. 24 at the River Bluff Performing Arts Center, wherein students from the school’s Center for Law and Global Policy Development will ask questions that they submitted.
A release from the school touts it as an opportunity for the students to “receive an up close and personal look at politics this election cycle.”
It’s the first debate announced between Larkins, a young Columbia business owner and political newcomer, and Wilson, who has represented the district since 2001.
The debate, hosted by River Bluff’s Center for Law and Global Policy Development and Center for Media Arts Design and Production (programs open to all appropriately aged Lexington County School District 1 students), will start at 7 p.m. Those wishing to attend must register beforehand beginning Oct. 1 via Eventbrite.
The debate coincides with the first day of early voting in Lexington County, as five sites will open in the county for residents to cast votes Oct. 24-Nov. 5 (Monday-Saturday) ahead of election day.
