Friday — Jan. 26

Bassmaster College Series
Brave the cold and head out to Lake Murray for the Bassmaster College Series Fishing Tournament. Watch young anglers go head to head to see who casts the best line. Lake Murray is one of six stops on the Bassmaster College Series Tournament Trail, and the event runs through Jan. 27. Visit bassmaster.com/college for more information.

Free Fridays
Grab the kids and head over to Riverbanks Zoo & Garden (500 Wildlife Pkwy.) for its Free Fridays promotion. Residents of Richland and Lexington Counties receive free daily zoo admission every Friday during the months of January and February with proof of residency. You can use a valid driver’s license, a property tax statement or vehicle registration. Free Fridays run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Friday in January and February. Flatland Express (concert)
Bill’s Music Shop & Pickin’ Parlor (710 Meeting St. in West Columbia) presents a performance by Flatland Express. The band will play their dynamic mix of classic and modern bluegrass, gospel and classic ‘60s and ‘70s hits from 8 to 9 p.m. Admission is a $10 donation. “Bell, Book, and Candle” (play)
Village Square opens its latest production, a presentation of the perennial supernatural comedy play “Bell, Book, and Candle” (made into a beloved 1958 movie starring James Stewart and Kim Novak). 3rd Anniversary Celebration (concert)
Savage Craft Ale Works (430 Center St. in West Columbia) celebrates their third anniversary with a day of live music and libations. In the mood for a little acoustic blues? J. Staton (concert)

“Opera & Broadway in Banksia”
The Aiken County Historical Museum (413 Newberry St. SW) and acclaimed opera vocalist Cristina Fontanelli present the “Opera & Broadway in Banksia” program on Jan. 27. Fontanelli and friends promise a night of dramatic singing and history. This event is a fundraiser for the Aiken County Historical Museum, and admission is $75 for general admission and $100 for VIP seating. “Murder Box” (play)
Newberry Community Players and the Historic Ritz Theatre (1151 Main St.) present “Murder Box” on Jan. 26. This edgy, noir-style play takes place in the 1940s, “as a theatre’s acting troupe is packing up the props, costumes and set pieces, an old magician’s trunk is wheeled onstage. Suddenly, members of the company are turning up dead. Margaret, the director’s assistant, is the only witness to these crimes, seeing with her own eyes how Eve was strangled, Madigan bludgeoned, and Stan shot. Yet no one will believe her, especially when there is no trace of any of the bodies!” Showtime is 7 p.m. and admission is $15. Friday and Sunday showings also available.
