Friday — March 3

Junie B. Jones: The Musical
The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commision Children’s Theatre and the Irmo Center for the Arts (6671 St. Andrews Rd.) present “Junie B. Jones: The Musical”: “Join Junie B. on her first day of first grade, where many changes are in store: Junie's best friend Lucille has found new best friends — and Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. While in Mr. Scary's class, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard — and she may need glasses. Add in a friendly cafeteria lady, an intense kickball tournament and a ‘Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,’ and first grade has never been more exciting.” Production goes from March 3 to March 5. Prettier Than Matt (concert)

Charles Page Trio (concert)
Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia) hosts the Charles Page Trio, performing “A Night of Soulful Grooves.” Expect to hear hits and classics by Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, The Gap Band, Quincy Jones, Blackstreet, Santana, Kem, Chaka Khan, Michael Jackson and many more. Acoustic Jam
Bill’s Music Shop & Pickin’ Parlor (710 Meeting St. in West Columbia) presents its weekly Acoustic Jam night. Touch-A-Truck
Bring the kids to Saluda Shoals Park (5605 Bush River Rd in Columbia) where they’ll be able to touch, climb on, and explore vehicles of all shapes and sizes, including fire trucks, police vehicles, dump trucks, lifts, animal control vehicles, tow trucks and more. Blackberry Lemonade Ale Release
Steel Hands Brewing (2350 Foreman St. in Cayce) releases its spring seasonal selection, a Blackberry Lemonade Ale. The beer will be available on draft and in six-packs, and PotatoHeads provide live music from 6 to 10 p.m. The release event begins at noon and is free to attend. Southeast Punk Flea Market
The Jamil Shrine Temple (206 Jamil Rd. in Columbia) hosts the Southeastern Punk Flea market. At this unique, DIY flea market you can expect vendors selling vintage clothes, toys, original art, taxidermy, handmade jewelry, games, comic books, vintage vinyl, movies, memorabilia and more. The flea market begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 7 p.m. Admission is $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Children under 12 get in free. March For Meals
The Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve (634 Old State Rd. in Cayce) is the location for the March For Meals 5K. This 5K run (and one-mile senior walk) raises money for Meals On Wheels and other senior nutrition programs and resources. Registration is open now and costs range from $15 for the senior walk to $35 for 5K day-of-race registration. This event begins at 9 a.m. on Timmerman Trail. Farmers Market
Irmo Community Park (7507 Eastview Dr.) hosts a Farmers Market with dozens of vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetables. There’s even a yoga class in session at the market. Holistic Market
If you’re looking for something a little different, try the monthly Holistic Market at 3 Rays Of Light (2040 S. Lake Dr.). There will be healers, readers, artisans and vendors, and 3 Rays Of Light will have tarot and oracle cards for purchase, along with oils, sage, candles, herbs, herb bundles, books and much more. Bit Brigade (concert)
The popular “video game band” Bit Brigade performs at New Brookland Tavern (122 State St. in West Columbia). The band will play the soundtracks to “Mega Man II” and “Duck Tales,” while a band member plays the video games live on stage. Showtime is 7 p.m., and tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Music Bingo

Ron Daise: Gullah Geechee Heritage
The Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (7300 College St. in Irmo) hosts a unique performance by Ron Daise, star of the Nick Jr. television show Gullah Gullah Island, who will present an evening of Gullah Geechee poetry, songs and heritage. “The Dub Chamber” (concert)
The Koger Center for the Arts (1051 Greene St. in Columbia) presents “The Dub Chamber” as part of its Live in the Lobby concert series on March 3. For this special performance, blues player THE Dubber is joined by a classical chamber music ensemble. Showtime is 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $18. Preach Jacobs (concert)
The Nickelodeon Theatre (1607 Main St. in Columbia) hosts an album-release event for local hip-hop artist and journalist Preach Jacobs on March 5. The new album, “Frances,” is Jacobs’ first in seven years and is named after his grandmother, who inspired the album. The show also features DJ Luis Skye and it starts at 3 p.m. Admission is $10. “An Act of Worship” (film)
Join the Columbia Museum of Art (1515 Main St.) for a screening of “An Act of Worship” on March 9. The film is portrait of the last 30 years of Muslim life in America. The screening begins at 6:30pm and there will be a post-screening discussion panel featuring Khadega Muhammed, one of the women featured in the film, as well as local Muslim activists and artists. New Edition (concert)
The legendary pop/R&B group New Edition performs at Colonial Life Arena (801 Lincoln St. in Columbia) on March 9. Expect to hear hits like “Candy Girl,” “Mr. Telephone Man,” “If It Isn’t Love” and many more. Tank, Guy and Keith Sweat open the show, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost between $65 and $132.
