Wendy’s, Freddy’s open new burger drive-throughs in Lexington County

A pair of fast-food burger chains are debuting new locations in Lexington County.

Wendy’s opened a new outpost at 5419 Platt Springs Rd. in the Red Bank area, with a release noting that the restaurant’s Aug. 7 debut came after a year of permitting and 18 weeks of construction.

The new restaurant is located near the Publix at Lake Crossing close by to an Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers location that opened in June.

The location is owned and operated by Tar Heel Capital Corporation, which has 89 locations in the Carolinas and Georgia. The release states that the new restaurant will employ about 40 people.

“This restaurant has been updated with our customers in mind,” Tad Dolbier, CEO of Tar Heel Capital, is quoted. “We believe our fans will be delighted by our classic fresh menu offerings, breakfast lineup, Late Night hours, and by the fresh look and feel. Today’s consumers will also love our mobile ordering, contactless pick-up and delivery options when they dine with their family and friends.”

The release notes that the restaurant features an interior “designed to have a lower impact on the environment, and showcases, bright dining areas with multiple seating options and WI-FI” along with a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine to allow diners to customize their beverages.

The restaurant will serve Wendy’s staples including square hamburgers, spicy nuggets and Frostys, along with the restaurant’s more recent breakfast menu.

Another burger chain location that has been under construction will open next week.

The second West Columbia outpost of Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, announced in December 2023, is set to celebrate its grand opening Aug. 15.

The restaurant takes over a spot at 1309 Charleston Hwy., near the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Knox Abbott Drive in Cayce. The location used to be home to a title loan business.

“Freddy’s is known for its cooked-to-order steakburgers made with lean 100 percent ground beef, Vienna Beef hot dogs, crispy shoestring fries and frozen custard treat,” real estate firm Colliers noted in a release announcing the location.

In addition to the two existing Lexington County locations, including one that opened in December 2023 near downtown Lexington, there are two other Midlands locations, one in Columbia and one in the Richland County portion of Irmo, which straddles the Lexington County line.

The location is owned and operated by 316 Restaurant group, which also has Freddy’s restaurants in the Augusta, Ga. metro area.
