Woman killed when motorcycle hits deer

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who was killed in a motorcycle versus deer accident that occurred at approximately 11:35. a.m., Saturday.

The incident occurred on U.S. 378 in Lexington.

According to Fisher, Mrs. Ruth Hunt Payne, 53, of Lexington was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The motorcycle, on which Mrs. Payne was the passenger, struck a deer that ran into the road.

Mrs. Payne and the motorcycle operator were wearing helmets when the accident occurred. The operator was transported to an area hospital; the condition of that individual is currently unknown. The accident was investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
