Brookland-Cayce looked good in the first half in its first-round playoff game versus Darlington. But the Bearcats gave up a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer that forced an overtime. Darlington took the game in the extra period by a score of 58-56.
Brookland-Cayce got off to a slow start, Wednesday. The Bearcats fell behind 5-0, before scoring the next 8 points to end the first quarter with an 8-5 lead.
It was the first-ever playoff game for BC in its new arena on Knox-Abbott Drive and the Bearcats made themselves at home, at least for the first half.
Brookland-Cayce scored more than double the amount of points in the second quarter, than in the first. At halftime, Brookland Cayce held a lead of 27-14.
It was a different story in the second half. Lots of turnovers for BC, and the Falcons came roaring back. Darlington outscored the Bearcats 18-to-8 in the third quarter and 35-to-22 in the second half. But BC was still up by 3 with 12 seconds left. That's when Darlington hit the 3, which resulted in a 49-49 tie at the end of regulation.
In overtime it was back and forth, but a 3-pointer and by Darlington, and better free throw shooting was the difference.
Zach McCoy had 15 for BC, Chamar Martin scored 14, and Aubrey Richardson had 13 for BC.
