The exterior residue of Hurricane Delta did not prevent the University of South Carolina from earning its 1st win of the season Saturday in Nashville, Tenn.

Getting 2 touchdown runs from quarterback Colin Hill and running back Kevin Harris and 479 total yards of offense, the Gamecocks rolled to a 41-7 victory over Vanderbilt.

Harris finished with a career-best 171 yards for South Carolina (1-2, 1-2), which snapped a 5-game losing streak dating back to last season and extended its winning streak to 12 straight over the winless Commodores (0-3, 0-3).

Gamecocks take a 3-0 lead in the 1st quarter on a 42-yard field goal by Parker White. The kick extended White's streak of made field goals to 14.

The streak ended on South Carolina's next drive when White missed from 53 yards.

Vanderbilt drove the football to the Gamecocks 4, but were stopped on 4th down.

South Carolina put together a 12-play, 96-yard scoring drive as Hill scored on a 1-yard keeper on 4th and goal with 2:09 left in the 1st half.

The 2nd half started with the Commodores getting stopped short on a fake punt attempt at the South Carolina 35. Two plays later, Kevin Harris raced up the the middle untouched for a 25-yard touchdown.

Vanderbilt finally got on the board when quarterback Ken Sauls  found Cam Johnson for a 22-touchdown reception.

With 4:22 left in the 3rd quarter, Hill scored on a 10-yard touchdown run to make it 24-7.

White added a 39-yard field goal with 21 seconds left in the 3rd quarter.

The Gamecocks proceeded to literally run away with the victory on their next 2 plays. On 1st down from the South Carolina 12, Harris burst through an open hole at the line of scrimmage and outran the Commodore defense for a 88-yard touchdown. It was the team's longest touchdown run since Bobby Wallace in 2006 against Middle Tennessee State.

It was former quarterback Dakereon Joyner's turn on South Carolina's possession. On 1st down, he took the reverse handoff and headed down the right sidelines for a 46-yard TD.

In the closing minute, freshman Jordan Burch of Hammond recovered a fumble to close out the victory.

South Carolina returns to action Saturday to face Auburn at Williams-Brice Stadium. The game will air at noon either on ESPN or the SEC Network.
