How old should kids be for cell phones?

Is cell phone ownership a sign of adulthood?

Probably not. Those days will soon be behind us.

A London digital newspaper reported that British parents insist 11 years old is the ideal age for children to get their own cell phones.

Actually 1 in 4 children under age 6 has a smart phone.

A Nielson study confirmed cell phone owners are younger than you think. 45% of kids with cell phones got them between ages 10 and 12,

That’s a little closer to what parents think is ideal.

Common Sense Media found that 74% of children had their own internet-capable wireless devices or shared one with someone else.

Why are kids getting their own phones so young?

Parents say it’s to keep in close touch with them.

90% of parents said it was to call their kids or their kids could call them.

As the majority of American homes have chosen to do away with their landline phones, this is a modern concern.

Whether your children get their own phones at 8 or 18 is a personal choice, but you may need to make that decision sooner than you think.
