"We're all gas, no brakes tonight."

Those words from head coach Raven Thomas served as a rallying cry to her Chapin High School girls' lacrosse team Thursday at Cecil Woolbright Stadium.

Facing River Bluff for the second time this season, this time for a berth in Monday's Class 5A Lower State Final, Lady Eagles dominated from the opening face-off.

Chapin took Thomas' message to heart, jumping out to a 9-1 lead in the first half enroute to a 18-8 win over the Lady Gators.

*How we play tonight determines the remainder of the season for us and we worked too hard to let it stop here," Thomas said. "They came out full force. I told them if they can play like that, they can beat anybody."

Freshman Brooke Holmes had six goals to lead the Eagles.

"It was a really quick start, especially with this team, you have to get out fast" Holmes said. "Getting ahead in the game is good because if we didn't get that lead, it would have been much harder to get them in the second half."

The win sets up a rematch with defending Class 5A champion Wando Monday in Mount Pleasant. The Lady Warriors defeated Dutch Fork 17-6 Thursday and have won the last two meetings over the Lady Eagles.

This includes last year's 9-8 win in the Lower State final and a 15-7 home victory on April 11.

Senior Regan Finn was a freshman on the undefeated 2019 state championship team that defeated the Lady Warriors in the Lower State final. She plans to carry that experience and the support of the Lady Eagles' fans into Monday's matchup.

"Last time we played Wando, we kind of broke down whenever we were down a few points," she said. "This time, we learned that like no matter if we're down or not, we can always come back because the last time we were at state, we were down by three goals to Fort Mill. We used that to motivate us to get us back on the field and we crushed them.

"So, we're going to take that into the next Wando game and we're gonna win."

The winner advances to the state final April 30 at Irmo High School.
