Since 2013, the state tournament has served as a post-season destination for Chapin/Newberry Post 193/24.
On Thursday, it earned a fourth consecutive trip and fifth in six seasons after wrapping up a second-round Best-of-Five series with Greenwood Post 20. Chapin/Newberry defeated Greenwood 14-9 in Game Four to claim the Upstate Region title.
Chapin/Newberry (17-5) jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first two innings. Preston Farmer led the offense with 5 RBI as he, Price Alexander and Will Kroske each accounted for three hits.
Chase Hood and Ward Hacklen each drove in two runs for Post 193/24, which finished with 15 hits as a team.
Starter John Steven Trammel struck out five in the first two innings. He gave up a four runs in the third and fourth innings and reliever Hunter Graham gave up five earned runs as Greenwood closed the gap to 12-9 in the sixth.
A 2-run single by Farmer provided insurance for Chapin/Newberry as Wesley Livingston threw a scoreless seventh to close out the win.
Chapin/Newberry will open the state tournament Monday at Piedmont Region champion Gaffney Post 109. The other series will have the Coastal Region champion (Florence Post 1 leads series 2-1 with Goose Creek/Charleston Post 166) playing host to the Midlands Region champion (Camden Post 17 leads series 2-1 over Sumter Post 15).
On Wednesday, the tournament will move to Spirit Communications Park in Columbia.
