Columbia residents arrested in Lexington County July 31 on drug charges.

Jakob Regan Dator, 20, was arrested when county narcotics agents pulled him over and found 587 pills in his possession, resulting in a charge for trafficking fentanyl.

According to the release, agents stopped Dator on the Interstate 20 ramp at U.S. Highway 378/Sunset Boulevard, from there they found 587 blue and green pills.

The incident report states that Dator had one bag and one bottle of pills in his shorts pocket, with a second bag of pills falling out of his underwear.

“Agents tested a sample from each of the three containers,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted in the release. “The test results showed the substance was fentanyl.”

The release states that Dator is being charged under the state's new fentanyl statute, which “requires a mandatory term of at least 25 years and up to 40 years in prison and a $200,000 fine for convictions that include 28 grams or more of fentanyl.”

Following his arrest, Dator is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center, with bond having been denied on the fentanyl charge. According to the jail website, he is additional charged with violating the terms of his parole.
