Escaped inmate found in Lexington County after manhunt

Posted

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department apprehended an escaped inmate in the morning Tuesday, July 11, hours after a manhunt was mounted to detain him.

Inmate Charles Kenneth Meador, 38, was found on the 700 block of Zimmalcrest near St. Andrews Road around 8:50 a.m.

Meador escaped from Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center this morning after last being seen around 3 a.m., according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. He was found missing after not being present for a detainee count later in the morning.

The department hasn't yet released any information about how Meador managed to escape.

Meador has been an inmate at the Richland County jail since an April 9 arrest. He was charged with the use of a vehicle without permission, grand larceny of $5,000 or more and resisting arrest.

He is also charged with receiving stolen goods in Lexington County, which resulted from a November 2022 incident during which Meador was  arrested by sheriff's deputies after failing to stop for blue lights, the department announced at the time.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
