It’s very much the heat of summer, but the word is out on who will be performing at one of the Midlands’ perennial fall events.

The Irmo Okra Strut is set to be back in action at the town’s Community Park Sept. 29 and 30, with rides, amusements, a parade, food and drink heavy on okra, and the aforementioned live music.

The freshly announced music lineup leans on longtime local favorites as well as a popular ’90s rock band that has headlined a Midlands music festival stage at least once before.

The first night of the festival, stalwart Columbia smooth jazz/R&B guitarist Terence Young takes headlining duties, while North Carolina alt-rock band The L.A. Maybe lends support.

The next day, The Reggie Sullivan Band, a far-ranging local rock and jazz band led by its namesake bassist, will perform before The Spin Doctors take the stage as headliners. The Doctors are known for jangling and crunching through ‘90s hits like “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong” but have remained active in recent years, playing frequently even though they haven’t released a new album since 2013’s “If the River Was Whiskey.”

The Spin Doctors previously headlined Columbia’s Rosewood Crawfish Festival in 2017.

The bands take the stage in Irmo Community Park’s Prisma Health Amphitheater, an asset the town has been actively trying to make more use of in recent years, including attracting bigger headliners to the annual Okra Strut.

The free festival will run from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30. Find more info at okrastrut.com.
