Posted

A Leesville man accused of shooting another man in the victim’s front yard has been arrested.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department announced that Daryll Jamar Thompson, 58, is charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime following the shooting, which took place Sunday, Sept. 17.

According to a release from the department, Thompson was taken into custody after an hours-long search Sunday morning.

“Based on the information detectives have confirmed during their investigation, Thompson shot a rifle multiple times toward the victim while at the victim’s property in the 400 block of West Hampton Street in Leesville Sunday,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted in a release. “The victim was struck by a round in the neck.”

The victim’s residence is located within the Town of Summit, which doesn’t have a police department.

According to a provided incident report, the victim was transported from the scene by ambulance. The sheriff’s department reports that he is expected to recover. The incident report specifies that the victim  told the deputy that he had been shot by Thompson in his front yard.

Thompson was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center following his arrest. The jail website lists an additional charge for failing to stop for blue lights. Capt. Adam Myrick,  public information officer for the sheriff's department, told the Chronicle that this charge is related to "our search for him throughout early morning hours of Sunday."

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
