Lexington County Blowfish, military to work together in special events

Posted

The Lexington County Blowfish held its April installment of their monthly luncheons on Wednesday.
The luncheon had a noticeable Veteran theme, with co-owner Bill Shanahan and General Manager Theo Bacot announcing several partnerships for the summer.
Joined by Bob Caughman, they announced the 3rd annual Veteran’s Night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium on July 5th. (Typically, this would take place on the night of July 3rd, but the Blowfish will be in Macon, Ga.).
The Year of the Veteran will also honor the 100th anniversary of American Legion Post #7, which is located in Lexington.
“The Blowfish look to honor our veterans in every way possible,” Bacot stated. “On July 5th, we get the opportunity to do that and honor our American Legion Post #7 which has served the community for a    century.”
The veteran vibe continued as the Blowfish also announced a new partnership with Leadership Lexington County. Leadership Lexington County, or LLC, is a non-profit educational organization that offers a stimulating program to develop leaders in our community.
“LLC will be bringing out one veteran to each Saturday game throughout the season,” Shanahan commented. “This gives the entire County of Lexington the chance to honor these men and women each Saturday night at Lexington County Baseball    Stadium.”
Captain Paulina Reilly also spoke at the meeting and talked about plans to partner with the Blowfish to hold three separate Career Fair nights during the 2019 season. These Career Fair nights will be sponsored by the U.S. Army.
“The Blowfish are partnering with the U.S. Army and each high school in Lexington County to get high school students thinking about their future,” Bacot told the crowd. “Whether it’s college, or straight into the workforce, these career fair nights will be fun for the high school students and will benefit our area for years to come.”
The club announced 2 more players for this season in Will Sandy and Bennett Nance from the University of North Carolina.
“For us to get two quality pitchers, and two quality young men, from the University of North Carolina is special,” Bacot stated. “We’re excited for them to contribute for us on the field and off the field in 2019.”
The Lexington County Blowfish begin the 2019 season with the annual exhibition Blowfish Alumni Game on May 27th at 7:05 pm. The official Opening Night is May 30 at 7:05 pm against Forest City.
