A Georgia man was arrested after asking for nude photographs and sending photographs and pornography to a person he allegedly believed to be a minor but was actually a Lexington Police detective.
Tyler Shane Greene — a 26-year-old from Augusta, Ga. — was arrested July 7 in North Augusta, S.C., with the assistance of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department, according to a release. He is charged with three counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, two counts of attempted criminal solicitation of a minor, and five counts of attempted unlawful dissemination of obscene material to a minor.
“On June 26, 2023, a detective with the Lexington Police Department, who is on the South Carolina Attorney General Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), was contacted by Tyler Greene through social media, believing that the profile was of a young teenage girl,” the release states.
“When the undercover detective told Tyler Greene about her age, he responded by saying that he was 15, then 16, and then admitted that he was 26 years old. He then asked not to be blocked from her account. Tyler Greene engaged in continued sexual conversation with the undercover detective, and sent nude photographs of himself along with other pornography. Tyler Greene continued to engage in online conversations with the undercover detective until July 4, 2023.”
Greene is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center, having been denied bond.
The release notes that due to evidence found during the investigation, “detectives strongly believe that underage victims have been involved with Tyler Greene online through social media platforms and meeting minors in person.”
Anyone with information regarding Greene is encouraged to contact Detective Earl Alewine at (803) 358-7262 or ealewine@lexsc.com.
