A teenager has been arrested following a 2022 shooting that left one man injured.

Trennis Lakeith Sumpter Jr., 19 of Blythewood, was arrested by Lexington County deputies, accused of firing shots which struck a man in a restaurant parking lot June 16 of last year. He is charged with attempted murder, criminal conspiracy and possesion of a weapon during a violent crime.

The victim was hit in the upper body, a release states.

“The victim drove himself to a hospital where he was treated for the gunshot wound,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted, noting that the victim eventually made a full recovery.

“Detectives have been pursuing leads on this case since it happened,” Koon is quoted. “They’ve identified Sumpter as one of the people who lured the victim to a restaurant in the 200 block of Harbison Boulevard under the premise the victim would be meeting a woman.”

The release additionally details that several rounds struck the restaurant. The business was closed at the time of the shooting.

“We expect to make more arrests in this case,” Koon is quoted. “Investigators are working to identify and locate other co-defendants who were on the scene and conspired with Sumpter to lure the victim to the parking lot.”

The department is encouraging those with info about the shooting to share anonymous tips via the Midlands Crimestoppers app.

“Tipsters who provide information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for a cash reward,” the release states.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
