Man arrested for West Columbia shooting that injured two

Lexington County deputies arrested a man for a West Columbia shooting that left two injured the evening of Aug. 22.

The department announced the next afternoon that Ivy Tyrone Richardson Jr., 52, was charged with three counts of attempted murder, a single count each of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, unlawful possession of a weapon and firing a weapon into an occupied vehicle following the shooting.

“Based on the information deputies gathered on scene, Richardson shot a rifle multiple times into a car with three people inside,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted in a release. “Detectives have determined this is connected to an ongoing property dispute.”

The release states that Richardson “threatened to kill the victims multiple times before the events that led up to the Tuesday evening shooting.”

“Two people were hit by shots fired by Richardson,” Koon is quoted. “Their medical teams tell us they’re expected to recover.”

According to a previous post to social media, the shooting happened on Gardners Terrace Road in West Columbia.

“A 911 call came in about the shooting at 6:15,” the department posted. “Deputies detained the suspect and another man arrested on unrelated charges about a half hour later.”

The second man arrested hasn’t been identified, with his identity redacted from a provided incident report.

In that report, a responding deputy reports arriving on the scene to find multiple people near a gray Dodge Ram, including one victim who was “holding his arm in agony,” having been shot, allegedly by Richardson.

“Deputies then heard yelling coming from the wood line and observed Ivy Richardson and [redacted] walking towards us. I then gave clear and concise instructions to Ivy to get on his knees and to place his hands on top of his head. Ivy compiled and was ultimately detained,” the deputy’s narrative states.

The report states that Richardson told deputies, “I have called y’all 20,000 times and y’all ain’t done [expletive].”

According to the report, Richardson told deputies the rifle used in the shooting, a black/tan Smith & Wesson, was lying near a tree.

The report notes that a dog on the property that belonged to Richardson was also hit by multiple gunshots.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
